Going Through Gramacho

by

temas.jpg  Over at The Temas Blog, fellow garblogger Keith resurrects his Trash Photos series with a powerful and in-depth look at Gramacho, a landfill outside of Rio regularly picked over by catadores, Brazilian rag pickers.  As usual, Keith reports on the issue in exhaustive detail, exploiting statistics, photographs and even video to show the effects of the landfill on the surrounding environment, culture and economy.

Leila, many thanks for the mention. As garbologist I thought you’d be one of the few who’d actually read/like the piece; never dreamed (hoped) you’d recommend it to others. [Unlike us, most people do NOT want to contemplate waste and its destination, much less discuss it in detail -- which is part of the problem in getting it dealt with properly, I feel.]

“As usual…exhaustive detail” eh? Your diplomatic way of saying I’m wordy and long-winded? LOL Guilty as charged! I need to allow myself some short-and-pithy entries sometime…

    Warm Regards,
    Keith

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend. I wasn’t trying to imply anything other than the fact that your reporting was thorough!

Leila, absolutely no offense taken whatsoever! :-) Hope I didn’t sound offended. I was smiling as I wrote that last paragraph — hence the “LOL” included. Trying to laugh at myself and my tendency to go overboard sometimes, especially when talking about waste topics.

    Un abrazo,
    Keith
