It’s that time of year again, time to honor the creativity of trash to fashion contestants in New Zealand. Thanks to a heads up from reader, Shaun, I see that the Waitakere City Council has posted the 2006 winners of their trashtastic annual competition.

Leila, I posted on my blog as part of my “Trash Photos” series a brief piece on the “fashion show” held in December in Belo Horizonte by the wastepicker (“catador”) association as part of their 3rd annual “Festival of Recycled Products.” They had this dress made entirely of used calling cards that blew my mind that I used as my visual. I think such events, plus the many art from waste events Brazilians now hold, are good for making people re-think what is really waste vs. what is simply wasted…
Best Regards,
Keith
