    this photo was taken exactly where it says in the title but has nothing to do with “everydaytrash” or “trash incineration”… this oven is used by local artists to melt bronze…

    Thanks for the correction! The friends I was with said it was where that trash had just been burned.

    I was there in April 09, and it is where alloys are melted. It’s behhind the guest house for sculptors, where casters work on commisssions from international customers even when the guesthouse is empty.

    The entire site, Laongo (North East of Quagadougou), is a fine and well kept artist’s haven where excellent sculpture is made out of granite rocks that are lying around in beautiful combinations.

    Sculptors are invited to work on the site, and some elect to include bronze components, hence the smelting equipment.
